    Purpose:   Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist (VRS) is responsible for ensuring high quality customer service in disability case management by providing medical expertise and serving as the critical communication link between all parties involved in medical disability cases.   The focus of the VRS is to promote optimal occupational/vocational functioning of employees who may no longer be able to continue working in their usual/customary occupation due to disability, illness or injury on a permanent or temporary basis.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Functions:

    • Demonstrates adherence to Reed Group values and performance guidelines.
    • Assists employee-client in making informed choices via patient advocacy in alignment with the Disability Guidelines and laws regulating disability management.
    • Provides high quality customer service by demonstrating diplomacy, compassion and professional competency.
    • Conducts interviews with employees for the purpose of obtaining information for vocational assessment purposes.
    • Conducts regular vocational case management reviews, making recommendations and implementing them or referring to appropriate outside vendors.
    • Collects and analyzes information obtained from employee interviews, educational and medical records, consultation with other professionals and diagnostic evaluations to assess employees' abilities and needs and determines eligibility for vocational services.
    • Arranges for referrals to evaluations and standardized testing including physical, psychological, neuropsychological, academic and vocational testing in order to obtain pertinent information to assess employee’s needs and to develop their rehabilitation plans.
    • Identifies barriers to employee’s employment including inaccessible work sites, inflexible schedules and transportation issues and works with them to develop strategies to overcome these barriers and develop a transitional return to work plan.
    • Prepares and maintains records and case files, including documentation such as employee’s personal, vocational and eligibility information, services provided, medical records, narratives of employee contacts and other relevant correspondence.
    • Observes/documents and reports changes in the condition of the employee to the disability case manager, attending physician, and other treatment team members as appropriate.
    • Requests and reviews medical documentation; vocational and educational history information; communicates with employees and medical personnel by telephone, email and/or in writing to obtain needed information to perform vocational assessment and make recommendations.
    • Ensures quality standards for case management are met. Implements Reed Group’s continuous quality improvement process whenever efficiencies or quality standards are not met. 
    • Drives return to work process in collaboration with the disability case managers.

     

    Other Duties:

    • Attends department and company meetings.
    • Provides support to peers as needed.
    • Other duties as required.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • A Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from a Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE) accredited program and a current Certification as a Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC)
    • Proficiency in use of various TSA and LMS based program, vocational assessment skills and case management skills
    • Excellent verbal, written, communication and interpersonal skills
    • Experience interviewing, gathering, assembling, correlating, and analyzing facts, creating reports, and devising solutions from data
    • Advanced knowledge of medical documentation
    • Intermediate level computer skills using Microsoft Windows, Outlook, telephonic processing software and the internet
    • Must complete the certified customer service training within 90 days of hire
    • Be a positive, energetic and results oriented team player
