Who We Are: Reed Group is a dynamic, fast growing organization that works in a niche industry most commonly known as Third Party Administration. More specifically, instead of employers managing the process when an employee needs to go out on leave for FMLA (the family medical leave act) or for Short Term or Long Term Disability, we handle it for them. As a result we have a large customer operations team of talented individuals who manage our client’s employee cases.

We build the software (we have a large group of developers) to manage the entire work flow which is why you could easily think of us as a technology company. We also have a content business called MDGuidelines that contains treatment recommendations for best managing an employee back to work.

The business intelligence (BI) and data warehouse (DW) Principal Architect is a technical expert in business intelligence technology and database architecture. This role will work directly with cross-functional stakeholders and team members to define, design and deliver the technical solutions that will support the business’s vision, strategy and goals.




Business Intelligence Architect 80%

  • Design, architect, and implement the technical solutions required to build a state of the art business intelligence platform using the latest technologies.
  • Formulate and recommend standards for achieving maximum performance, integrity and efficiency of the Enterprise Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence ecosystem.
  • Research, design, test, and evaluate new technologies, platforms and third party products.
  • Work with technology teams to design, prototype and prove the viability of solutions. Implement complex solutions as needed.
  • Provide leadership and expertise in the development of standards, architectural governance, design patterns, and practices.
  • Participate in the planning for retirement of systems programs and migration of systems infrastructure.
  • Develop technical solutions that will solve business problems. Drive solutions to completion.
  • Evangelize self-service BI and visual discovery while helping to change Excel based culture.
  • Provide thought leadership and direction to the Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse team to ensure solutions meet corporate and departmental objectives.
  • Champion data quality, integrity and reliability throughout the department by designing and promoting best practices.
  • Design and document how solutions are scaled, sized and deployed. Lead the creation of supporting documentation including ER Diagrams, technical specifications, data dictionaries, etc…
  • Respond quickly to market demands, troubleshoot and solve development and operational bottlenecks.
  • Design and implement data recovery, security and disaster recovery plans.
  • Develop and build strong relationships across the business to effectively influence and accomplish strategic application architecture objectives.

Team Leader/Mentor 20%

  • Assist DW team members with issues needing technical expertise or complex systems and/or programming knowledge. Mentor and develop new or less experienced team members.
  • Provide technical training to external team members to foster stronger cross-departmental relations.


  • 8+ years of experience developing business intelligence and data driven technical solutions
  • 8+ years of experience with OLTP and OLAP database models
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Expert in database architecture, design, data modeling, and predictive analytics
  • Significant Cloud based data storage and SaaS based product and data experience
  • Must be knowledgeable in software development lifecycles/methodologies i.e. agile
  • Must be comfortable in a fast pace, changing environment
  • Has strong presentation and collaboration skills and can clearly articulate all aspects of the job requirements, including the creation of formal documentation
  • Strong problem solving, time management and organizational skills
  • Formal database architecture design and implementation education.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering, Database Architecture, Business Intelligence



  • Master’s Degree Computer Science, Database Architecture
  • Database Technology: SQL Server, Netezza, Hadoop, Cloudera
  • ETL Technology: SSIS, DataStage, Talend, CRON scripting, Perl
  • Microsoft BI Technology: SSRS, SSAS, Tableau, MicroStrategy
  • Time series analysis, clustering, decision trees and neural networks
