Who We Are: Reed Group is a dynamic, fast growing organization that works in a niche industry most commonly known as Third Party Administration. We are known for being a leader in managing absences for major companies including Fortune 100 companies. More specifically, instead of employers managing the process when an employee needs to go out on leave for FMLA (the family medical leave act) or for Short Term or Long Term Disability, we handle it for them. As a result we have a large customer operations team of talented individuals who manage our client’s employee cases.

We build the software (we have a large group of developers) to manage the entire work flow which is why you could easily think of us as a technology company. We also have a content business called MDGuidelines that contains treatment recommendations for best managing an employee back to work.

Right now we are over 1,900 employees (and growing daily).

Responsibilities

The Principal Architect is a technical expert responsible for driving architecture, design and development for our business intelligence and SAAS applications. This role will work directly with cross-functional stakeholders and team members to define, design and deliver the technical solutions that will support the business’s vision, strategy and goals.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

Business Intelligence Architect 20%

  • Design, architect, and implement the technical solutions required to build a state of the art business intelligence platform using the latest technologies.
  • Formulate and recommend standards for achieving maximum performance, integrity and efficiency of the Enterprise Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence ecosystem.
  • Research, design, test, and evaluate new technologies, platforms and third party products.
  • Work with technology teams to design, prototype and prove the viability of solutions. Implement complex solutions as needed.
  • Provide leadership and expertise in the development of standards, architectural governance, design patterns, and practices.
  • Participate in the planning for retirement of systems programs and migration of systems infrastructure.
  • Develop technical solutions that will solve business problems. Drive solutions to completion.
  • Evangelize self-service BI and visual discovery while helping to change Excel based culture.
  • Provide thought leadership and direction to the Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse team to ensure solutions meet corporate and departmental objectives.
  • Champion data quality, integrity and reliability throughout the department by designing and promoting best practices.
  • Design and document how solutions are scaled, sized and deployed. Lead the creation of supporting documentation including ER Diagrams, technical specifications, data dictionaries, etc…
  • Respond quickly to market demands, troubleshoot and solve development and operational bottlenecks.
  • Design and implement data recovery, security and disaster recovery plans.
  • Develop and build strong relationships across the business to effectively influence and accomplish strategic application architecture objectives.

 

Team Leader/Mentor 40%

  • Assist on-shore and off-shore teams with issues needing technical expertise or complex systems and/or programming knowledge. Mentor and develop new or less experienced team members.
  • Provide technical training to external team members to foster stronger cross-departmental relations.
  • Work on multiple projects as a project leader or internal consultant.
  • Provides thought leadership in technology direction, technical services, vendor partnership and industry standards adoption.

Architecture 40%

  • Review current architecture of all solutions and propose ways to optimize, enhance, and scale.
  • Support the release planning by understanding the details (effort, risk, priority) of the planned features
  • Be an evangelist of our technologies and products. Communicate across multiple teams to showcase new features and functionalities
  • Gather and analyze data and develop architectural requirements at project level
  • Conduct and lead technical design session
  • Research and evaluate emerging technology, industry and market trends to assist in project development and/or operational support activities
  • Participate in the domain technical and business discussions relative to future architect direction
  • Present technical solutions to leadership team

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience developing technical solutions in .NET including business intelligence and data driven technical solutions
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Proficiency with major development tools and processes such as revision control, requirement specs, unit & system tests, etc.
  • Proven ability to take leadership role in projects that span multiple teams, ability to deliver on time working in a fast-paced agile environment
  • Significant Cloud based data storage and SaaS based product and data experience
  • Must be comfortable in a fast pace, changing environment
  • Has strong presentation and collaboration skills and can clearly articulate all aspects of the job requirements, including the creation of formal documentation
  • Strong problem solving, time management and organizational skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related fields

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Database Technology: SQL Server, Netezza, Hadoop, Cloudera
  • Enterprise architecture
